Film photography has most definitely declined in its popularity since the invention of the digital camera, but that does not mean that no one uses it anymore. The art of film has become more mainstream in the past few years, especially for photographers who like their pictures to appear more nostalgic. Film allows the photographer to experiment with the entire process of creating a picture. When shooting with a digital camera, the picture you originally take is most likely the picture that will be the end product, but while when using film, you have the freedom to experiment with not only the factors of shooting, but also the whole development of the photo. It is evident that people have discovered this potential and are still creating these beautiful works of art because of it. The hashtag #FilmIsNotDead is a prime example of this holding true. People around the world share their masterpieces with others through this hashtag in efforts to prove to the rest of the world that, film is very much still alive.
Another example of film still being used today is right here at our high school. There are hundreds of students who are, and have already, taken the film photography class offered here. I have never met anyone who has had a bad experience with shooting and developing film that made them wish they didn't do it. It is true, film can be more challenging than digital photography, but in my opinion, that is what makes it worth it. You took the picture. You developed it. You may have even edited how the photo looks by hand. That is why film has survived this long. People are still dedicated to the creative art form that is film photography. This is why, FILM IS NOT DEAD.
